RICA: The snoozers win!
About 2.6 million Vodacom Prepaid and 600 000 Vodacom Contract customers have not registered for RICA yet and will be cut off from the Vodacom service if they don’t do so before 30 June 2011.
With Vodacom’s latest incentive campaign Prepaid and Top Up clients are receiving up to R1 500 FREE AIRTIME when they RICA register their SIM cards. Your incentive is determined based on your average monthly spend over the past 6 months and Vodacom will load your free airtime within three days of registration. Take note that you will not receive any Talking Points for the incentive airtime and you will only receive the incentive once-off for RICA registration.
So if you are still RICA unregistered: rush to your nearest RICA registration point with your ID and a valid proof of residence and you can score about a month’s worth free airtime for yourself!
The only people not excited about this incentive campaign are probably the customers who diligently RICA’ed their SIM cards long ago and received no reward for it…not to mention the Contract customers excluded from Vodacom’s latest RICA registration incentive campaign…
In this case it seems like you won’t lose if you snooze…as long as you wake up before 30 June 2011!

Prepaid KaChing!
Vodacom offers enticing rewards to their Prepaid clients for using the popular Prepaid service. These include the opportunity to enter competitions, get Talking Points, and enter the Yebo Millionaires game show FREE.
Vodacom Talking Points
Vodacom’s Talking Points loyalty programme gives Vodacom Prepaid customers points every time they recharge with airtime or data bundles. Once you have enough points, you can get free SMSs, MMSs and data bundles, discounted Vodacom-to-Vodacom calls, and even brand new cell phones, provided you have registered for RICA.
Every time you recharge, you will receive about 10% of the amount you had spent, back in the form of Talking Points. So, the more you recharge, the bigger your reward will be. For instance, if you recharge with R50, you will get 5 points, but if you spend R1000, you will get 100 points (plus a bonus R100 for every R1000 airtime recharge!).
Here are some examples of the rewards you can expect to get:
- If you accumulate 100 Talking Points, you can exchange them for a free SMS bundle of 100 SMSs (valid for 90 days) that may be used in South Africa only (not internationally). Alternatively you can have a free 100 MMS bundle (for SA) or a 5% discount on Vodacom-to-Vodacom calls (also valid for 90 days).
- 150 Talking Points can be exchanged for 150 SMSs, 150 MMSs or a MyMeg 110 data bundle.
- If you have 500 Talking Points you get either 750 free local SMSs, a 750 MMS bundle that will be valid for 90 days, or a free MyMeg 300 data bundle that will be valid for up to 60 days. (Remember the rule for data validity: data is valid until the last day of the next month. Therefore it will only be valid for 60 days if you activate it on the first day of a month.) Or if you like talking on your cell phone, you can take a 20% discount on Vodacom-to-Vodacom calls (valid for 90 days).
- If you have 1000, 1500 or 2000 Talking Points, you qualify for the 500 points bundles (twice if you have 1000 points, and four times if you have 2000 points) or you can opt for a free cell phone. The cell phone you will get will depend on the number of points you have accumulated.
It is worth checking your Talking Points from time to time because if you don’t exchange them within 18 months, you’ll lose them. There are a few ways to do this:
- Dial *111# (that’s: star – one – one – one – hash) from your Prepaid cell phone, select “Talking Points” from the menu (option 3) and then follow the instructions.
- Call the Vodacom Talking Points help line on 082 2411 082 between 8 am and 8 pm, Monday to Friday (free call for Vodacom customers).
- Call Vodacom’s Customer Care on 082 111 any time of the day (free call for Vodacom customers).
- Visit any other participating Vodacom outlet, for example a Vodashop.

Vodacom Yebo Millionaires
Vodacom’s Yebo Millionaires loyalty programme is open to all Vodacom clients: Contract, Top Up or Prepaid. Between January 2006 and February 2010, 13 lucky people from various parts of the country have become Yebo millionaires. The next one COULD be you! Seven people have won R500 000 cash since 2005.
So how does it work?
Every Tuesday all Vodacom clients receive two FREE SMSs that they can use to enter Yebo Millionaires. Then all you have to do is choose any nine letters of the alphabet and SMS them to 32082. If you are entering for the first time, you will receive a simple multiple choice question and once you enter this correctly you can continue to play as often as you like.
If your entry is valid (if there are nine letters), you will get an SMS that gives you a reference number and draw date. Those people with a nine-letter match stand to win R1-million; those with an eight-letter match can win R200 000; those with a seven-letter match may win R29 airtime; and if you only have a six-letter match you may win R12 in airtime. If there are multiple winners, they share the prize. So if ten people get the correct nine-letter match, each will get R100 000. However since 2006, the R1-million prize has only been shared twice, and on both occasions only between two people.
Vodacom also gives away ten LG cell phones during the weekly lucky draw, and currently there is a Toyota Yaris in the monthly lucky draw that takes place on the last Tuesday of every month. Other types of cars have been given away previously.
To know whether or not you have won, you should watch the Yebo Millionaires game show on SABC 1 on Tuesday evenings from 18:25. All winners are also notified by Vodacom.
To claim a prize, you need to:
- Present the SMS with the reference number that was sent to you when you entered.
- Prove that you own the cell phone number that the winning SMS was sent from.
- Provide proof of identity and proof that you are at least 18 years old.
Note:
- Cash prizes are only paid into valid SA bank accounts in the names of the winners.
- All unclaimed prizes are forfeited three months after the winning numbers are announced.
For further information, you can speak directly to the Yebo Millionaires Department by dialling 082 2432 082 (free call for Vodacom customers).
