When Vodacom reduced their Broadband Standard data bundle rates for Contract customers on 1 August 2011 (more details at http://www.vtime.co.za/contract-versus-prepaid-data), the question that people immediately asked was, “When will the rates be reduced for Prepaid customers?” Thankfully Vodacom did not make us wait too long. Since 19 September 2011, PREPAID and TOP UP customers are also be able to benefit from reduced in-bundle MB rates on existing once-off data bundles and newly introduced once-off data bundles.

Standard data bundles that are no longer be available are: MyGig 3, MyGig 5, MyGig 10 and MyGig 20. However, if you need a lot of data, you can still find the bigger bundles in Advanced data (see http://www.vtime.co.za/index.php/data-direct/broadband-advanced). Vodacom also introduced two new bundle sizes: MyGig 1 and MyGig 2. Unfortunately the out-of-bundle rate for all Prepaid Standard data bundles remain at a very expensive R2/MB.

To read more about the impact of these changes on Vtime customers, please click on: http://www.vtime.co.za/index.php/data-direct/broadband-standard

Vodacom brings even more excitement with their Double-your-Prepaid-data promotion from 19 September 2011 to 31 October 2011. During this time you will receive double the allocated data if you buy the following Standard data bundles: MyGig 1, MyGig 1.5, MyGig 2 or MyGig 2.5.

We hope that you will opt to buy your cheaper Prepaid STANDARD data direct and pinless with Vtime!

Keep yourself warm this winter with Unlimited Music! Get unlimited music fulltracks from as little as R29 or R39 with Vodacom’s Unlimited Music Subscription.

Top Up and Prepaid customers younger than 25 must register for Vodacom Color first by SMSing “Color” to 31116 (free SMS). You will then receive a WAP link which will route you to the http://m.vodacom.co.za/Color mobisite where you can register for Color and purchase a “Color ur tunes bundle”. This will cost you R29 every 30 days (non-recurring). Note that you will pay standard data rates when downloading the music.

But what if you are older than 25? Well, then it will cost you R10 more…

All other Vodacom customers (Contract, Top Up and Prepaid) can SMS “Music” to 31116 (free SMS). You will receive a WAP link that routes you to the Vodafone live! Music page. This service will cost you R39 every 30 days and you will also pay additionally for downloading the music (standard data rates will apply). This R39 subscription will be recurring, which means it will be automatically renewed every 30 days. However, you will receive a notification two days before billing, to advise you about the subscription renewal and you can unsubscribe by SMSing “Stop” to 31116 prior to subscription renewal.

The Unlimited Music Subscription will allow you do download as many music fulltracks as you wish from the available catalogue. This catalogue may change from time to time and it will include both SA and international fulltracks. These fulltracks are sourced from four of the major record labels, as well as from the largest local music content aggregator.

Besides SMSing “Music” to 31116, you can also subscribe for Unlimited Music by entering http://live.vodafone.com/music in your cellphone browser, and:

clicking on the “Unlimited Music” link to subscribe, or by

selecting a track you wish to purchase. Once the track is selected, you will be presented with the option to either purchase the individual fulltrack for R7.50 or the R39 Unlimited Subscription.

Take note that once subscribed to the Unlimited Music offer, you will not be able to get ALL music content. The offer is limited to fulltracks. So ringtones, Welcome Tones and realtones are not included as part of the subscription. Don’t worry too much, though, as you will be advised at the point of purchase if there are any additional charges.

If your fulltrack download fails, you can attempt to download it 100 times within 28 days after your first download attempt. Yet, keep in mind that you will be incurring data costs for every download attempt. You can retrieve your failed download from the “My Downloads” history section on Vodafone live!

All downloaded songs will be DRM (digital rights management) regulated. So you not be able to transfer or share the songs between cellphones.

Not all phones will be compatible – so how will you know if yours is? If you visit the mobisite and the offer is not presented to you, or when you receive an error message when trying to purchase, your cellphone is probably incompatible to the service.

For more information, please dial Vodacom Customer Care on 111 (free from a Vodacom cellphone) or 082 111 from any other phone.

What can you do if you need to make an urgent call right NOW, and then realize that you have run out of airtime? What if there is no time to go out to purchase prepaid vouchers or you cannot connect to the internet to recharge online? Vodacom’s new Airtime Advance service will forward you some airtime to help you out of the pickle!

Simply dial *111*082# and you will receive an SMS to inform you that Vodacom has given you R10 Airtime Advance to make calls or send messages. Of course you could also convert the airtime to the MyMeg 8 data bundle (R9,25) and surf the internet to top up via Vtime!

You will only qualify for the Airtime Advance service if you are a RICA registered Vodacom Prepaid customer who have been active on the Vodacom network for 12 months or more and if you have spent at least R29 (VAT inclusive) every month over 6 months (this includes cumulative recharges). To find out if you qualify for the service, dial *111*082#.

So what is the catch?

Next time when you recharge, Vodacom will deduct R11 from your account. This is the R10 they loaned you, plus a R1 service fee. For example, if you take up the Airtime Advance offer, next time you buy R100 airtime, R11 will be deducted and only R89 airtime will be loaded onto your account.

For assistance, or to find out more about the terms and conditions, you can dial 111 free from your Vodacom cellphone, or 082 111 from any other phone.

With the RICA deadline looming near and the Department of Justice confirming that no further extension will be given on the 30 June deadline, Vodacom recently announced an exciting incentive campaign to get their PREPAID and TOP UP customers RICA’ed – read about it in the post “RICA: The snoozers win!”

At the end of April 2011, there were still 267 569 active Vodacom CONTRACT customers that were not RICA registered. Now, for the final push, Vodacom is offering June subscriptions for free, when unregistered Contract customers RICA register from 10 May to 31 May 2011.

If you are an unregistered contract customer, you should already be receiving weekly SMSs prompting you to register and receive your June subscription free. You should note that this offer is only valid for Vodacom Service Provider customers, SMEs and business Contract customers. You are excluded and will not receive the free subscription incentive if:

your      account is in arrears;

you are a      contract customer with pending migrations to Prepaid;

you are a Corporate, Key Account, Sponsored Account or Government Account.

So, how about that? Getting June’s subscription for free if you visit any RICA registration point with your green ID book and a valid proof of residence? Sounds like a grand once off incentive to get your contract SIM RICA registered in May 2011.

About 2.6 million Vodacom Prepaid and 600 000 Vodacom Contract customers have not registered for RICA yet and will be cut off from the Vodacom service if they don’t do so before 30 June 2011.

With Vodacom’s latest incentive campaign Prepaid and Top Up clients are receiving up to R1 500 FREE AIRTIME when they RICA register their SIM cards. Your incentive is determined based on your average monthly spend over the past 6 months and Vodacom will load your free airtime within three days of registration. Take note that you will not receive any Talking Points for the incentive airtime and you will only receive the incentive once-off for RICA registration.

So if you are still RICA unregistered: rush to your nearest RICA registration point with your ID and a valid proof of residence and you can score about a month’s worth free airtime for yourself!

The only people not excited about this incentive campaign are probably the customers who diligently RICA’ed their SIM cards long ago and received no reward for it…not to mention the Contract customers excluded from Vodacom’s latest RICA registration incentive campaign…

In this case it seems like you won’t lose if you snooze…as long as you wake up before 30 June 2011!

Apple fever seems to break out afresh with the release of every new i-device, as proven once again with the recent release of the iPad 2 in America. Not only was it easy to instantly fall in love with this magnificent new product and its stylish protective cover, but it was equally exciting to hear about the new cheaper prices for the original iPad:

iPad with WiFi (save R500) only:

16 GB = R3899

32 GB = R4899

64 GB = R5899

iPad with WiFi and 3G (save R600) only:

16 GB = R4999

32 GB = R5999

64 GB = R6999

People who are going to break the piggy bank to buy an iPad and opt for the one with WiFi + 3G, need to ensure they get the best possible deal for their data usage. Although there are very attractive and competitive Contract packages in the market, more and more people seem to be choosing Prepaid data for their iPads. Why? Well, maybe they feel like they don’t want or cannot afford yet another Contract. Or quite possibly the fact that Prepaid data is more affordable than Contract data plays a role…that is if you play according to the rules…

If you are new to Prepaid and feel like you want to brush up on the rules in order to make sure you get the most out of your Prepaid data bundle, you will find 5 simple rules and plenty of practical tips here: http://www.vtime.co.za/index.php/archives/1283

Now if you’ve got the iPad, and you’ve opted for Vodacom Prepaid data, what do you do when you run out of data? What are your purchasing options? The fact that there is a Micro SIM in the iPad makes things interesting. It is not so easy to remove the Micro SIM from the iPad and put it into a handset to type in an airtime voucher or to dial a number to convert the airtime to a data bundle! So it is best to leave the Micro SIM in the iPad and do everything online.

Here are a few options:

Buy airtime online via your internet banking. This normally requires you to type in an OTP and the 3G number you want recharged with every transaction. Then you still need to convert the airtime into a data bundle, unless you are very rich and don’t mind paying R2/MB. To do this, visit www.vodacom.co.za and log into the “My Account” section with your 3G modem cell number and password. Use your airtime to buy a data bundle.

With certain banks, you can buy data bundles directly via internet banking. This is great because it means no “airtime-to-data conversion”, but they only offer Broadband Standard data bundles.

You can use your credit card to buy airtime (don’t forget to convert the airtime to data!) or data bundles directly from some online providers. That is if you do not mind using your credit card for online purchases. However, these providers also only provide Broadband Standard data bundles.

Then there is Vtime. The biggest effort is to register Vtime as a permanent beneficiary on your internet banking, but the good news is that you do this only once. After this, you simply make an EFT to Vtime with the exact Rand amount of the specific data bundle you want and they will recharge your Micro SIM direct and pinless. Besides the convenience, it is also worth mentioning that Vtime is still the only virtual company to offer Broadband Standard and Broadband Advanced data bundles direct and pinless via EFT.

Gadget lovers all over the world would agree with me when I say that the best thing since sliced bread is the iPad. In my opinion, the best thing since the iPad is Vodacom Prepaid data direct and pinless to your Micro SIM with Vtime.

With the influx of communication tools in the market, many families now own more than one device, for example:

smartphone(s)

laptop(s) with 3G

PC(s) with 3G

tablet(s) with 3G – like the iPad

Now if you have each of these devices on Contract…you must be receiving a pile of accounts every month!

In the past, the Vodacom Data SIM service allowed you to link a maximum of 3 SIM cards to a single Contract. Since 14 March 2011, Vodacom has enhanced their Data SIM service to allow CONTRACT CLIENTS to link up to 5 SIM cards and receive one consolidated bill at the end of the month. This means that you can link your family’s or employees’ SIM cards and share a data bundle. However, please note that a BlackBerry SIM must use the internet APN in order to access the shared data bundle. It may be bad news to BlackBerry lovers, but you will only be allowed to have a BlackBerry service on the primary SIM card or on ONE of the additional SIM cards.

The linked SIM cards will be able to function independently. In other words, each SIM card may be used at the same time and it does not matter which device is being used at the time. There will always be only one Contract holder and the SIM cards will belong to the same Contract.

This service is not free, however. There will be a once-off cost for the SIM card and a connection fee, plus a monthly subscription fee of R9 (promotional price) will be charged for each additional SIM card. The process will also include a migration during which the primary SIM and the other SIM cards will be migrated to the same new Price Plan. This new Price Plan will then be initiated against the primary SIM.

If this sounds like something that could simplify your life, you can visit your nearest Service Provider to activate the Multi Data SIM. For more information, visit www.vodacom.co.za
